I built Portland's UX research and design practice from the ground up. City bureaus became partners in putting people at the center of their work. Over and over, I redirected bureaus with solutions in hand to instead narrow in on root problems. For a permitting engagement, this redirect led to task success going from 10% to 82%. I gathered what we learned to create a human-centered playbook and design system. We can now scale our impact without needing to be in every room.

Shipped four long-requested features for business-critical workflows on a fixed public deadline, while recognizing a capacity gap mid-project and hiring four designers, onboarding each through personal 1:1 pairing sessions to keep the timeline intact.
